The Exchange of the Comenius Assistants

Our school hosted  a Comenius assistant from Germany, while at the  Industrial-Buisness School in Karlovac hosted an assistant from Finland. Both schools are in the process of organizing a visiting exchange of assistants which would be of value for students, teachers and assistants alike.

Our assistant, teacher Thomas Hütten was in Karlovac at the beginning of May. He visited Krašić, Pribić i Ozalj on a half-day excursion. He got to know the cultural heritage of our country, which is one of the aims of a Comenius assistant. In Karlovac he held a class and gave a presentation about his travels called ''Teacher Thomas and Friends Travel Around the World''. In this way the students in Karlovac got to see how people live in Myanmar, Cambodi a and Thailand.  They learned what a Waldorf  school is which is where he worked before coming to Croatia.  He saw how future Karlovac enterpreneers bake bread in the school bakery and he tasted their products.
In return, the Finish language teacher (from the city of Jyväskylä Titta Hänninen) taught two days or nine hours of geography classes at our school. She spoke of her homeland and its excellent results in education and business. Finland is one of the top countries in the world for anticorruption. Because of this she spent a lot of time talking to students about  cheating on tests in school. But she also spoke with them about saunas, Santa Clause,  and the sun which doesn't set in the Finish landscape. She even visited our student who is at home on the home schooling program.
The Comenius assistant  watched a presentation on Bolivian nature and culture, displayed a small ethnographic exhibition on America, and after staying at school, they visited Varaždin.

In 1895 the second hydro-electrical plant in the world was built in Croatia (only two days after the first one in Niagara) and it was the first one in Europe – Hydroelectricity ''Jaruga" close to Skradinski buk on the river Krka.
