Italian cultural week

Italian cultural day was held this month at our school. A variety of activities and presetations marked the week.

With the help of the Italian Institut of Culture in Zagreb, we set up an Italian display in the library and on a pinboard in the hall of our school.

On the aniversery of the death of Luigi Galvani, phyiscs teacher Domjan Svilković demonstrated a working calculator without the use of batteries. He had hooked the calculator up to two lemons!

On Donatello's Day, ten grade five and six students worked on a clay sculpture. They learned about the well-known Italian sculpter Donatello and saw how difficult it was to create those sculptures  and reliefs of people, animals and other motives.

On the aniversery of the death of Antonio Stradivari, the violin maker, twenty people worked on violin sculptures made of carboard. Another sculpture, ''The Four Seasons'' by Vivaldi, was created in the background. The violins are now half completed, and the rest will be finished during the second term.

The library was open from 12:20 pm to 2:00 pm daily. This is where the teacher assistant Costanza Tonti from Ancona held various activities for all those who were interseted. Unfortunately about ten grade seven students come only once to participate in these extra-curricular activities, but they were very interested and very active in the event. With the help of a presentation and of what they remembered from class, they put together a display of photographs of interesting Italian places with captions underneath. They also researched Italian artists from an enormous book in the school library.

We planed to visit the exhibit ''Guercino – The Light of Baroque'' on the 8th of December. Unfortunately in all our excitement, we had forgotten that not one museum is open on a Monday! So we decided to visit the exhibition in January, however without our teacher assistant Costanza because she had to return to Italy. Another assistant from the ''Erasmus+'' program will accompany us. Don't feel bad Costanza, we will write to you and tell you all about it!
A large number of our students have become famililar with Italian culture. They learned that Italy has many very famous artistic works in a variety of fields. Our neighbouring country doesn't fall into the category of world reknown art for nothing!
