The university of Bologna

It is an honor for our school to co-operate with the University of Bologna for the second consecutive year. It is represented here by its students, our interns.

The University of Bologna is considered to be the oldest university in the Western world.

1088 is widely considered the date in which free teaching began in Bologna.
At the end of the 11th century, masters of grammar, rhetoric and logic began to apply themselves to law in Bologna.

The University was legally declared a place where research could develop independently from any other power. From the 14th century the schools of jurists sat alongside the so-called "artists", like Dante Alighieri and Francesco Petrarca, who studied here.

The University's fame had spread throughout Europe and Bologna was a destination for many illustrious guests including Nicolas Copernicus, Thomas Beckett,  san Carlo Borromeo, Torquato Tasso and Carlo Goldoni.

With the Industrial Revolution in the 18th century, the University promoted scientific and technological development.

The Alma Mater has expanded itself throughout Romagna (Cesena, Forlì, Ravenna and Rimini) becoming the most extensive of all Italian universities. It also inaugurated a campus in Buenos Aires in 1998.

Last year, 84.744 were the students who have chosen the University of Bologna: to this day, it's the most popular university in Italy.
