We Won First Place at the Origami Competition

Our school Origami Team ''Sesvete's Caves'' won first place in both events on April 7th at the First Croatian Origami Congress in Sisak. Our school was represented by Mario Tolić (7a), Karla Šimunić (6b) and Tihana Vučić (6b) under the guidance of their mentor, teacher Željka Šprljan Pskač. Read more about the program and the competition.

The first Croatian Origami Congress was held in a public school on the 22nd of June in Sisak. It started with an official opening and an exhibition of origami artists Krešimir Rajkija and Dragutin Gerić.
This was followed by the competitions in which students had to make a 3D cube and design and launch a 3D plane. Twenty-one teams with a total of 63 competitors from differents parts of Croatia participated in these events.
The first competitive task – a competition in making a 3D cube
Each team needed 40 minutes to create their three 3D cube. Each was made from 6 paper squares with A5 dimensions. Competitors had to make the pieces without the use of scissors, rulers, or any other aids from the A4 formatted paper. They also had to assemble the cube without the use of glue or any other adhesive. The cubes were evaluated based on precision and the time it took in creating them.
The second event was the launching and flying of a 3D plane.
Each team in the competition had to bring 5 compleated airplanes made with origami techniques. Each team got to launch all five planes, and the best score of the team was used. The team whose plane flew the farthest was the winner. The captain of our team Mario Tolić secured a victory by throwing his plane a distance of 25 meters.
After the competition, there were interesting workshops and seminars for all the participants. The delegate for Japanese Culture Mr. Ryohei Nakajima was also a participant in the seminars.
Our school got a chance to present and exhibit 30 of its origami models.
