Our students in action

A big catastrophy has happened this month. Part of Croatia (Slavonia) has been hit by a huge flood. Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina have also been hit by the flood.

The flood was due to the excessive amounts of rain this past month. The flood waters washed away things that people had been working for all their lives. Many hearts are broken, many tears are shead, but what  is worst of all is that many lives are ended. Although water is essencial in creating and sustaining  life, it also has the power to destroy. Many older people are left broken because they had spent their entire lives building their homes and now that they are older, they don't have enough time or energy  to rebuild. All of their memories are tied to their homes. We Croatians are a small country but a big hearted nation. Croatia has become involved in many humanitarian efforts. Concerts have been organized and many famous people have become involved where the profits will go to the flood victims. Food and clothing are being collected, while others are donating money.

Our school has also joined-in in humanitarian aid. We have collected a lot... Croatia helps. Let this sentence ring throughout the city and let even more people join us in giving aid. This is my wish . But it will be hard to replace the homes and family that the flood had washed away. The broken-hearted flood victims can only begin to heal when they get their homes back.

In these kinds of floods, brothers help each other, water has washed away all borders and all pray to one father, God! In this type of situation, it isn't important if someone is a Serb, a Croat or a Bosniak . It is only important that they are humane! This is the one good thing that comes out of disaster. I hope that the flood victims return to their homes soon, that their broken hearts mend  and that the city will once again ring with the sounds of laughter, not with the tears of the victims.

Our school has orgaized aid for the flood victims. We have collected food, clothing, sanitary items and many other things that the children have brought. We collected a lot of things and sent it to the flooded areas. Please join our efforts and help too if you can so that all the victims can return to their homes and try to live like before.  The collection lasted from the 20th to the 23rd of May 2014. The collected items were taken to Critas in Zagreb.
We, the students of Sesvetska Sopnica Elementary School, had organized a food drive and other necessary items for  the people who live in the flooded areas.  The drive lasted from the 20th to the 23rd of May 2014. On the 27th of May we took everything to Caritas in Zagreb and we hope that we helped some of the people who have lost everthing.
