Studying Until You Can't

''I don't study at all!“ – is a statement that a few of our students could say about themselves (but we are working to reduce this number!). And while they  ''live it up“ , they may not know about the other side. Members of the Eco-Club met her at a film showing ''The Doors of China“ at the recent Zagrebdox.

Study until you go crazy and wind up amoung the millions of those who didn't,  make it...
''The Doors of China“ tells the story of young Chineese who through studying try to change their fate. From as early as dawn, the students in Huiningu start studying. Hardworking young people fill the school playground. Huining is one of the poorest areas of Southern China. To these people, education is the only hope of changing their social status. That is why all of their efforts are focused on the entry exam for university.  This process is similar to passing through a door: who passes can study at the city's university and have a chance at a better life.  (From the film trailer at Zagrebdox's web page.)

The film talks about children who must pass an important exam in order to go to university so that they can become wealthier. These children live in homes for highschool children. This home has many small rooms where parents can visit their children.
Children learn out loud in a classroom.
On the day of the exam, parents wait for their children in front of the main entrance to the school.

When a child passes the exam, he or she can become richer and get a job in a good company, but if he or she fails the exam, they can become even poorer and have  very little chance of getting a job at all.
I think that this is too strict for children, but all the same they must study.
When they learn out loud, they should be focused and alone because it may bother others around them.

It is interesting to be in a classroom in which 40 or so students are studying out loud. It's like being in a beehive.  Early in the morning, they go out into the playground where they also study: they walk, holding papers in their hands and study out loud. At least they don't bother each other as much out there. Still, it is a strange scene. What if we studies this much...Or if we at least vlaued our school! I don't know...
