A Journey Through Toy Land

The Ethnographic Museum in Zagreb hosted two toy exhibits: one from Poland and the other from Croatia's Zagorje, which UNESCO had proclaimed as  World Non-material Herritage. We looked at the regular displays, aswell as the displays of Asia and Oceania. We drew our own masks based on Oceanic ones, and after learning about them through a presentation and the internet, we met a nun from the Solomon Islands.

The grade six pupils travelled to a world of toys. They had a great time and learned a lot. This is what one grade six pupil, Antonio 6.B, had to say. He worte:

On Thursday February 28th, we went on a trip to the Ethnographic Museum in Zagreb. Our Geography teacher organized the trip and our Comenius Assistant from Hamburg, Germany, Simone Konig accompanied us. We met at the train station in Sesvete. We treavelled by train to the Main Terminal, from there we walked to the museum. We divided into two groups. One group attended a workshop while the other looked at the toy exhibits from Croatia's Zagorje.

In the museum we watched a short film about how the tamburica (a small wooden instrument similar to a guitar) is made. Our guide told us how people had made toys in the past and sold them. We saw traditional costumes that people once wore. After that we saw a model of a train station, which we throughly enjoyed.

After the museum, we went to McDonalds. We had to wait in line a long time, but we were patient. It was excellent at McDonalds. We ate, talked, laughed and had a lot of fun together. At 7:00 pm we had to head for home. We returned to the train. The train was crowded, but that didn't bother us.

Our parents were waiting for us at the station. Some pupils went home on their own. It was a very good school trip and we hope that our teacher will take us on other trips int he future.
